Spago – Caesars Windsor
Description
Spago is Windsor’s best-known Italian restaurant group. The Erie Street original opened in 1990 in the heart of Little Italy; brothers Pete and Ralph Vitti, whose family roots are in Casalvieri, Italy, have run it since 2008 and have added a South Windsor room on Dougall Avenue and a restaurant inside Caesars Windsor. The kitchen makes its own ravioli, lasagna, manicotti, sauces and cured meats.
What to order at Spago
Start with the arancini, then a thin-crust pizza and something from the pasta list: the hand-made ravioli and lasagna are the dishes the family is known for, and the chicken marsala is a reviewer favourite. The pizza is thinner and more Italian than the Windsor norm, which is the point. For the local style see our Windsor-style pizza guide.
Spago in the Windsor pizza scene
Spago is number thirteen in our best pizza in Windsor ranking and the right answer when you want a proper dinner with wine rather than a takeout box. The family also runs events out of the former St. Angela Merici church hall on Erie Street, where Pete’s parents were married.
