Description

Vito’s Pizzeria is a family-owned Italian restaurant and wood-fired pizzeria at 1731 Wyandotte Street East in Olde Walkerville, Windsor, Ontario. Run by the Maggio family, whose Sicilian food tradition came to Canada in 1954, Vito’s serves forno a legna (wood-fired) pizza on a whole-wheat crust alongside homemade pasta, antipasti and seafood, and caters events across Windsor-Essex County.

About Vito’s Pizzeria

Vito’s philosophy is simple: family and team effort are what make the finest meals. In the early days Vito’s mother, Agatha, was always in the kitchen, an exceptional cook whose influence still shapes what comes out of Vito’s oven today. The family’s dedication to the Italian tradition of cooking and eating together was carried from Sicily to Windsor by Vito’s parents in 1954 and continues to this day. Vito’s is part of the Maggio Hospitality Group, the Windsor family behind Kildare House, Nauti V’s Oyster Bar, Ortona 1864 and Factory House Sports Bar.

Wood-fired pizza (forno a legna)

Vito’s pizzas are wood-fired on a whole-wheat crust. The menu runs from a classic Margherita (tomato sauce, bocconcini and basil) and the Semplice (pepperoni, cheese and pomodoro sauce) to house specialties: Vito’s Frutti di Mare (shrimp, calamari and mussels with pesto and parmigiano), JJ’s Siciliano (homemade Italian sausage, roasted red peppers and red onions), the Polpette Pizza topped with Nonna’s homemade meatball, Prosciutto Funghi (egg, prosciutto and mushrooms), Pesto di Pollo, Salmone (Norwegian smoked salmon, asparagus and pesto), Calabrese (hot peppers, sopressata and eggplant) and a vegetarian Verdura.

A note for Windsor pizza fans: this is Italian wood-fired pizza, not Windsor-style. If you are after shredded pepperoni and Galati cheese, see our guide to Windsor-style pizza.

Beyond pizza

Vito’s is a full Italian restaurant. Antipasti include bruschetta, mussels (pomodoro or white wine), calamari, Nonna’s polpette, arancini (“Sicily’s Golden Orbs”) and locally caught Lake Erie yellow perch. Pastas cover the classics: arrabbiata, pomodoro, bolognese, alfredo, carbonara, gnocchi, lasagna, frutti di mare, cacio e pepe and more, plus soups such as pasta fagioli and a full salad list.
